Don Was Interview and Bob Weir Tribute with Meagan Panici on WZRD Chicago 88.3 FM

Don Was and Bob Weir had a deep, evolving musical relationship, starting with a mutual introduction in the 90s, leading to a powerful trio with Jay Lane as Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros, and Was also being instrumental in forming Dead & Company by connecting Weir with John Mayer. They shared a strong musical chemistry, with Was admiring Weir’s unique phrasing and innovative playing, and Weir finding a kindred spirit in Was for intimate musical explorations.

Six-time Grammy winner, acclaimed producer and Blue Note Records President Don Was just released his debut album with The Pan-Detroit Ensemble, a “nine-piece soul jazz group from Detroit” as he describes it. Groove in the Face of Adversity is due October 10 via Mack Avenue Records.

Don Was and the Pan-Detroit Ensemble plays TWO shows at Garcia’s in Chicago on 1/25/26. Both at 5:30 PM and 8 PM.
